iPod Being Retarded…Again (How I fixed it)

So over the summer I was in the car at the beginning of a road trip and though ‘oh, good thing i have my iPod because i need something to pass the long hours with.’

Of course it decides to stop working right then and there.

I have just today sat down and tried to work it out and figured I should tell people so they don’t waste their precious green on another Steve Jobs creation.

Patient:

3rd Generation iPod Nano (RED)

Windows XP Computer

Symptoms:

  1. Games Worked Fine
  2. When I clicked on a song or video, my iPod would either freeze and restart OR go back to the menu (how irritating!).
  3. Now I tried to reboot my iPod but after I would connect it, it would automatically eject itself after about 10-20 seconds.
  4. iTunes didn’t show that it recognized it BUT iTunes would open when i connected it.
  5. After going through the USELESS help Apple offers I took matters on to myself…

Treatment:

  1. DO NOT CONNECT IPOD YET
  2. Close all other programs so your computer does not freeze up.
  3. I opened ‘My Computer’ and ‘Itunes’.
  4. I connected my ipod and started to refresh ‘My Computer’ until the F:// drive shows up.
  5. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY right click on the drive your ipod is on.
  6. A menu should show up and you must click on FORMAT
  7. A window will pop up and you must click ‘START’
  8. A warning will pop up and will say that all the data on the disk will be erased and you must click okay. (your library is still safe on your computer and you don’t have much use of it on a broken ipod so you’ve not much to lose)
  9. After it reformats your ipod (takes a few seconds is all), you must disconnect your iPod and close ALL programs.
  10. Reconnect your ipod and Itunes should show up and will recognize your ipod as a new device and will synchronize it.

I hope this Step-by-Step solution is of some help to you! Don’t be afraid to ask questions…I’m a bit of a computer geek. ;)
